Unwanted Bees

There are two main groups of bees, social and solitary

There are over 200 species of solitary bees. They lay their eggs in excavated chambers which are stocked with pollen and nectar. Their off spring can take up to year to emerge.

Mortar/Mining Bees are classed as solitary bees.

Mortar Bees appear early spring and make their home in decaying mortar and around window/door frames.

Mining Bees also appear early spring and make their home in soil and lawns. They are not aggressive and look similar to Honey bees but are much hairier.

Bee Control

Bumble Bees are social bees. Bees live and work in the same nest. They have the same social set up as wasps and produce new queens every year that hibernate over winter colonies die. Bumble bee hive can contain over 300 workers.

Bee Removal

Honey Bees are social bees and can number up to 50,000 and the hive hibernates over winter unlike Bumble bees. They propagate by producing new queens which leave the hive taking workers with them. These swarms are called casts and they may produce up to 8 cast depending on how strong the hive is
