Unwanted Squirrels
The grey squirrel was introduced into Great Britain from North America in 1876 in Cheshire and established themselves throughout England and Wales. The consequences of this were that the native red squirrels numbers declined.
The Grey squirrel has a greater ability to compete for food and this is believed to be the reason why. The red squirrel can only be found in areas such as North Cumbria, Northumberland, Isle of Wight and Scotland.
Red squirrel numbers are currently around 160 000 whereas the grey squirrel numbers are around 2,500,000.
Squirrel Removal
Grey squirrels breed twice a year between February & March and June& July. In our experience they have four youngsters. If they breed in February they tend not to breed in June and vice versa. Grey squirrels tend to build their nests (dreys) in tree forks and hollows.
